Eight Planets in Orbital Motion
The 3D metal orrery builds a working model of the solar system from roughly 200 brass pieces. All eight planets orbit a central brass sun, recreating the mechanical astronomy instrument that clockmakers have built since 1704.
Assembled, the orrery stands about 48 cm (19 inches) tall on a 25 cm (10 inch) base, with Pluto and its moons extending the reach to about 51 cm (20 inches). The gold-toned brass finish and painted wooden planet spheres make it a statement desk display and a conversation piece for an office or study.
A Mechanical Astronomy Build
This is an intermediate metal model kit with about 20 hours of assembly. As you connect the gears and orbital arms, the planets take their positions around the sun, and the finished model demonstrates real planetary motion, including the retrograde swing of Venus. It suits astronomy enthusiasts, STEM learners, and metal puzzle builders.
